Cardiology
Consulation
Our practice deals with all aspects of cardiovascular
disease, including coronary artery disease, heart attacks,
angina, chest pain, congestive heart failure, heart
valve problems, arrhythmia (irregular heart beats),
congenital heart disease and preventitive cardiology
- to name just a few. Special areas of interest include
complex or difficult to manage problems and second opinions,
and assessment of risk of heart problems in patients
scheduled to undergo surgery for non-cardiac problems.
Inpatient
Consultation
Hospital or emergency consulation and care for patients
at any of our affiliated hospitals who have heart problems,
or who require the expertise of a cardiologist for evaluation
of potential heart problems.
Prevention
Specialized and individualized evaluation and counseling
to minimize the risk of future heart problems. Particularly
important since half of all Americans die of heart problems,
many of which are preventable.
Diagnostic
Services
These procedures are utilized to determine if a heart
problem is present, and if so, how best to manage it,
and include:
Electrocardiography an "EKG"
Ambulatory electrocardiography
the "Holter monitor", a small digital recorder used
to capture the rhythm of the heart to evaluate the risk
of future problems and the significance of symptoms
such as palpitations or lightheadedness, among others.
Event
monitoring a small device similar to
the ambulatory electrocardiogram used to evaluate symptoms
that are present less frequently.
| Echocardiography
an ultrasound investigation of the structure
and function of your heart. Quick and painless,
it provides a wealth of information. We utilize
the latest technology, the Accuson Aspen digital
imaging system. |

Vascular
imaging including carotid artery Doppler
testing and leg vascular testing to determine the presence
and severity of blockages in arteries to the brain or
legs, or blood clots in leg veins.
Stress
testing to determine the cause of chest
pain and other cardiac symptoms, evaluate the safety
and appropriateness of an exercise program and assess
prognosis after cardiac problems develop. This may be
combined with echocardiography (a "stress echo") or
with nuclear imaging ("thallium stress test" or "Cardiolite
stress test") for enhanced accuracy. Stress testing
may utilize a treadmill or any of several medications
which can be given intravenously to allow us to determine
how the heart is functioning, if there has been any
muscle damage and if there is any evidence of blockage
in the heart arteries (coronary artery disease). Dr.
Ratner has personally performed more than 30,000 such
procedures.
Nuclear
cardiology techniques combine the latest
in diagnostic testing. Procedures such as the traditional
thallium stress test are enhanced by newer medications
to image the heart and arteries. Our laboratory is
one of the few certified by ICANL (Intersocietal Commission
for the Accreditation of Nuclear Laboratories), assuring
that your testing is of the highest quality available.

Microvolt
T wave analysis a new, sophisticated
examination that detects people at risk for sudden death.
Our
office also provides diagnostic chest X-ray and laboratory
services, pacemaker and defibrillator monitoring and
diagnostic ultrasound services when needed.
